Backhousia citriodora, commonly known as Lemon Myrtle, is an Australian native plant prized for its aromatic leaves and lemony fragrance. This evergreen shrub or small tree features lance-shaped, glossy green leaves that emit a strong lemon scent when crushed. It can grow 6 to 20 meters tall in its natural habitat. However, when cultivated in gardens or containers, lemon myrtle can be pruned to maintain a smaller size.
Lemon Myrtle is valued not only for its culinary uses, where its leaves are used to flavour dishes and beverages, but also for its therapeutic benefits when distilled for its high essential oil content.
